About The Artist

I was born in Portland, Oregon, to parents who appreciated art, fine craftsmanship, the beauty found in nature and Mid-Century Modern design. Their appreciation for creativity and thoughtful design shaped my perspective from an early age. It’s no surprise that I went on to earn a degree in Interior Architecture from the University of Oregon.

For 35 years, I worked as a interior designer for a national architectural practice, designing large-scale commercial projects nationally and internationally, many of which were published. My career taught me to see the world through a designer’s eye—to appreciate composition, proportion, color, and the details that make the interior environment come to life.

Retirement opened the door to a new chapter and more time for family, pickleball, golf, hiking, study groups, and enjoying the beauty of the Northwest. It also gave me the opportunity to return to being creative.

I’ve always found joy in exploring pattern, texture, shape, color, textiles, and paper. I especially love the way a handmade card can turn a simple gesture into something personal and meaningful. In 2021, I began drawing cards by hand and rediscovered the satisfaction of creating with my own hands. Encouraged by friends and family, I took the next step and launched Terri Johnson Designs.

In 2023, my husband and I began a new adventure, moving from our home state of Oregon to Arizona. Today, I work from a small studio in my home, where I draw, create, and explore new ideas. What began with hand-drawn greeting cards has grown into a collection of art for everyday living—including art prints, playing cards, luggage tags, coasters, notebooks, Swedish dishcloths, plates, platters, and more.

I’m always experimenting with new techniques, discovering new inspiration, and looking for creative ways to bring my artwork into everyday life. Not everything I create is available on my website, so be sure to follow along on Instagram or visit me at local markets to see what’s new.
